Luisa Sargentini, known throughout the world as Luisa Spagnoli, was born in Perugia on 30 October 1877. When she was a little over 21 years old, she married Annibale Spagnoli and together with her husband, she took over a grocery store in the centre of Perugia. In 1907 the Spagnoli family, in partnership with Francesco Buitoni, Leone Ascoli and Francesco Andreani, opened a small confectionery company with 15 workers in the old city centre: the Perugina.

Her great creativity, inventiveness and practical sense led her in 1922 to create the famous "Bacio" chocolate, destined to become famous all over the world.
